How To Turn Your Favourite Photo Into A Beautiful Canvas Print

Although digital photography is becoming the norm nowadays, the warm fuzzy feeling when touching a printed photo from their childhood still lingers. We all know that those photo albums are now a thing of the past, but people still love to surround themselves with fond memories.

People print their favourite photos on glossy paper and hang them on their walls. These framed photos remind us of fond moments spent with loved ones.

But what if we told you there was a way to preserve your favourite photo? This is so that it has a higher depth, better quality, and texture that you can't achieve on paper. To ensure photographs last longer, print them on a canvas.

And the good thing is that you don’t need to be a skilled photographer to turn your favourite photo into a canvas! The highest-quality mobile phones can take professional-looking photos if you put in some extra effort.

This article will show you how to convert any photo into a canvas print and make your living space attractive.

  1. CHOOSE A HIGH-QUALITY PICTURE

The first and foremost step is to choose a high-quality image for printing. The broader the resolution, the better the print on the canvas. Such pictures are also easy to edit and resize. We recommend images with at least 300 pixels per square inch for a sharp and clear look.

The picture you select for the canvas print can be of any category. Family photos, pictures of pets, landscapes, and even motivational quotes can add charm to any space. You can take minimalistic popping pictures highlighting one character/object or more intricate photographs featuring abstract details.

Besides this, you also need to select a suitable picture for each room. For instance, a canvas print of 18th-century Roman architecture won't look suitable in your 8-year-old daughter's room.

2. MAKE ADJUSTMENTS AND ENHANCE PHOTO RESOLUTION

Once you have finalized which image you will print, we suggest editing software to enhance its quality and make relevant tweaks. Minor changes like adjustments to lighting, contrast, exposure, and shadows can improve an already stunning picture. You can also resize or crop the photograph to meet your canvas size.

Make sure you keep the canvas size you want when adjusting your image dimensions. It is always better to change the photo's size to make it bigger than the canvas. This way, you can always reduce its size to fit the canvas, preserving its resolution.

3. PICK A PROPER CANVAS FOR THE ROOM

Once you have resized and resolved your chosen image, choose a canvas that fits the room.

The size of your desired canvas should match the room dimensions and number of photos you want on the wall. If you wish to display multiple pictures, we recommend smaller canvases in larger quantities. On the other hand, when opting for larger prints and canvas dimensions, you may want to display 1 or 2 canvas prints on one wall.

Smaller sizes between 8 x 10 inches and 12 x 16 inches are ideal for bookshelves and dressing tables. You can put them on your desk, rather than hang them on the wall. For living rooms, hallways, and dining rooms, we recommend circular 24 to 36-inch canvases and square canvases of similar dimensions. A 24 x 36-inch rectangular canvas also covers empty wall space.

4. CHOOSE BETWEEN ADDING FRAMES OR NOT

Frames are vintage additions to modern paintings that complete the look. They are an optional add-on that depends entirely on your personal preference and taste. Do note that frames can take up additional space on the wall, depending on the width and thickness of your chosen frame.

Make sure to choose a frame with colours that go well with the photo printed on the canvas tones. Additionally, you also have the freedom to pick from various materials for your frames, like wood, metal, and even plastic. Choose one that matches the theme of your room.

5. TRANSFER YOUR FAVORITE PHOTO ON THE CANVAS

Once your favourite photo is optimized, and the canvas size is selected, it is time to turn it into a canvas print.

Here are the things you will need to do the job:

  • A digital copy of your favourite photo

  • An inkjet printer

  • A sheet of paper

  • A canvas

  • A high-quality gel medium

  • A paintbrush

  • A wet sponge

Once you have everything in order, follow these steps:

  1. Print your desired picture on a standard sheet of paper from an inkjet printer.

  2. Use a paintbrush to apply a generous coat of high-quality gel medium to the side of the canvas, where you will transfer the picture.

  3. Place your picture on the canvas with the printed side touching the gel medium.

  4. Press the picture onto the canvas and carefully smooth it with your thumbs, so there are no wrinkles or bubbles between the canvas and the picture.

  5. Let the paper and canvas dry for 24 hours.

  6. After the image has dried completely, dampen the paper with a wet sponge to saturate the image completely.

  7. Peel the paper off the pressure (as it might remove the ink).

  8. Once the paper is peeled off completely, you will see the image printed on the canvas.

Congratulations! You have successfully turned your favourite photo into a canvas print!
